I addressed the duality in Jamaica national image – the success of the nation’s brands in destination tourism, music and sports and the destablising effects of its rival brands of economic instability, corruption and declining human rights.

On the invitation of Jamaica’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Aloun D’ombet Assamba, I delivered a public lecture entitled ‘Harnessing Jamaica’s National Brand for Economic Growth’ at the Jamaica High Commission in Londonon June 17, 2014. In my lecture, I posited that Jamaica holds a strong position globally in terms of symbolic and cultural narratives yet remains deeply impoverished. KEYNOTE SPEECH – Jamaica Diaspora UK 4th Biennial Conference, Birmingham, United Kingdom. June 13-15, 2014.
As Founder and Chairperson of the nation brand think tank, The Re:Imagine Jamaica Project, I delivered the keynote address at the fourth biennial Jamaican Diaspora UK (JDUK) national conference to be held June 13-15, 2014 at the Centennial Centre in, Edgbaston Birmingham. In my address entitled ‘Brand Jamaica and the Jamaican Diaspora’, I focused on how the Diaspora may broaden the scope of its involvement in the development process and solidify positive perceptions of Jamaica abroad. I also used the opportunity to enlist the support of Jamaicans in the Diaspora in promoting Brand Jamaica.
